Easter Parade Day 2
I have always preferred to base irregular cavalry, particularly horse archers, on hexagonal bases. I started doing this way back around 1996 or 1997 when collecting large numbers of Huns. An American visitor to Claymore around about the turn of the century made me an offer I couldn't refuse and all of my Huns literally, went west.
Since then I have reprised the basing style for irregular infantry,...

Marlborough's amphibious campaign 1690 - pdf release
It is with delight and some pride that we release our latest pdf detailing the campaigns in Ireland between 1688 and 1691.
Charles Fort, Kinsale - scene of a bloody siege, sallies and assaults |
This one deals with the ambitious and extremely successful amphibious campaign undertaken by the Earl of Marlborough against Cork and Kinsale in the autumn of 1690. Involving thousands of troops fresh from...
Ottoman cavalry update
I have been slowly but surely painting Ottoman cavalry in between other projects and am just about to base the first units.
I had to get at least one of each figure done in the six packs for the shop and seeing them all together demonstrates how nice this range has turned out.
Recent reading and referenceto source material has reassured me that these figures will be usable for the north African...
10 Reasons why this is my favourite wargaming period

Neerwinden/Landen 1693 |
I have been gaming the period 1666-1720 for thirty years this year. Despite forays into other periods of which I am fond, I always return to my favourite. Recently, I have agreed to write a title for Helion about wargaming the period 1666-1697 specifically and that has made me reflect on why I maintain an enduring fascination for this 60 year span of history.
So, here are my...
Guest post: Gareth Lane's Scots-Dutch Brigade

George Ramsay's Regiment |
The Scots-Dutch Brigade had a long and active service but is probably best remembered for its great defeat at the hands of Viscount Dundee's Highland army at Killiecrankie in 1689.

That it was composed of and largely officered by experienced Scots officers is something occasionally yet deliberately overlooked by those intent on some Scots v...
I found it in a box....
I obviously bought this for my 28mm projects about the time I was making merchant ships and pinnaces however it was long overlooked in a box, buried under other non started projects. During a recent wargaming colonic irrigation I cleared out much accumulated clutter. Purchases which never got off the stocks or even out of the bubble wrap.
I came across this. I remember buying it at Claymore two or...
BLB Head to Head #2: Jacobite Highlander v Williamite infantryman

Williamite infantry march into the Highlands |
Of course not all Highlanders were Jacobite but, in our period of interest the terms fit together well to describe the feudal warriors who supported the Stuart cause. Men from the Highlands adhering to an individual method of fighting as opposed to a collective one. Highland forces were often small. At Killiecrankie it is doubltful whether Dundee had...
Williamite Army, 1690
Clarence Harrison - Just eye candy... not sure I've posted these as a set before... I still want to add more units (two Huguenot battalions and three squadrons of Eppinger's Dragoons), but I am well pleased with the collection.
Somehow, I've never managed a series of photos for my assembled Jacobite army so I'll have to add to my 'to do' list!

Tatars fighting Swedish cavalry at Warsaw 1656, Lemke |
As a follow on from the Ottoman Sipahis recently released, I've been hard at work on some Tatar cavalry.
Though the idea to add them to the range was originally as a supplement to the Ottoman forces, they certainly can be considered to be an important power in their own right, being a major headache for the fledgeling Russian...
Happy New Year from Quindia Studios!
Clarence Harrison - I hope the turn of the calendar finds everyone well! Looking across my various blogs, 2019 was a very poor year for posting, even though I was quite productive. I painted loads of things I didn't bother with photographing.
I wanted to start off the year with some new units for Beneath the Lily Banners!
The first was painted for my collection by THE Barry Hilton and based by me to...
