4PlayONEShot - the next little evolutionary step

4Play was a little idea that really caught on. It has done so well that I am continuing to expand titles and in an effort to cover all the bases, I am offering a new variant on the theme. Some gamers don't swap lanes. It's either multi-based big battles or skirmish gaming, but not both.

The 4Play packs are to my mind very good value for money with three comprehensive and well thought out gaming...

Understanding the Irish campaigns of 1689-1691- Storming of Athlone

Irish defences south of Athlone Castle and the bridge

Having spent time walking many of the battlefields of the Irish wars I am constantly gaining a better understanding of the actions that took place. The recent Promenades Travel Jacobite Wars tour gave me a chance to do some more sniffing around.

The Castle and bridge in 1691

Being based in Athlone allowed considerable time to explore this small...

Back from the Wars.. Promenades Travel Tour of Irish Battlefields 1690-1691

Field guns at Oldbridge

We packed a helluva lot into four and a half days visiting Oldbridge, Donore, Duleek, Athlone, Aughrim, Portumna, Nena and Limerick. We spent long enjoyable days walking the fields, forts, castles and sites of the campaigns of 1690 and 1691 in Leinster, Connaught and Munster.

Beneath the Lily Banners

To coincide with May Bank Holiday, there is a special offer on 4Play packs. The original idea is coming up on two years old and has been an unqualified success. There are thirty-seven titles plus five free titles. Each has three scenarios focused on a particular campaign or period.

Donnybrook

They cover all of our rule systems - Beneath the Lily Banners, Donnybrook, Mad for...

Too much? Aughrim all in one place

I make no apologies for the time, effort and focus I have directed on the Battle of Aughrim, July 12th 1691. Wargaming resources about the battle have increased steadily over the years as I have worked my way through.

There are eight uniform and regimental history pdfs for the entire Williamite Army available. These give detailed information of the complete order of battle for Ginckel's troops.

A...

Bloody Aughrim pdfs - Released

These turned into rather epic pieces and are the longest and most detailed scenario guides I have yet produced in the 4Play range.

There was so much to cover that it took two full 36 page pdfs for the main action and I am working on the third dealing with some minor elements of the battle now.

There is a lot of detail in these and I have included battlefield pictues detailing the terrain upon which...

Red Bog - 12th July 1691

I've been threatening to do an Aughrim video for the YouTube Channel for a while and finally got round to completing it. The Red Bog scenario is a regimental sized BLB game with 1:10 model to man ratio and is played in the 4PlayX format - 4 x 4 table, 8 turns .

It turned out rather well and got me fired up to continue with the Irish output for BLB, 4Play and background reading and reference...

The War in Ireland - A trip through the archives Part 2

Warfare Miniatures - infantry in Ireland mostly from codes V01-V06

Having hungrily sucked up as much of what little collateral I could find in the early days of being interested in the period, I began to assemble my own bits and pieces and make that available. Of course, this is a continuous work in progress as new information occasionally appears or I decide to revisit certain aspects and...

River crossing scenarios - Barry's Half-men

Some new and unique pieces which I will be selling off.

I tinker with stuff. It's an illness and I have had for years. I can't just leave things alone. I have to be chopping up figures, converting them and generally mucking about. Having been fixated with river crossings in Ireland (it all started with the Boyne you see) for quite some time, I have accrued a lot of what was once described by a...

A remarkable life - Prinz Ruprecht von der Pfalz

First release in the series on Prince Rupert's campaigns

I have enjoyed reading and exploring the exploits of a quite remarkable figure form the 17th century. Not the fairly well trodden but brief path of his adventures in the land campaigns of the War of Three Kingdoms between 1640-1647, but the far more sustained period of his contribution to history. His activities as a naval commander between...
