The League of Augsburg
Shiver me timbers! Put an ice pack on that!
Panorama of the icy ending to the scenario |
Last evening, Colin and I played Fog of War – the 4Play scenario for the Battle of Hudson’s Bay, 1697. It is unusual because the fighting takes place amidst the pack ice and in a thick fog. The mechanisms for contact in the fog produce ship disorientation and repositioning relative to other ships.

The Rejects' Guide to Ark Royal's 17th Century Shipping Part 3
The Rejects' Guide to ARK ROYAL'S 17th century shipping
It's a while since I have blogged but that is simply because social media and life are not always compatible. Live one, neglect the other! Trying to do both is NO LIFE at all. This post gets to the nub straight away. It is a Noobs guide to the Ark Royal range and its models. It provides, context to the use of each in gaming terms. It may have a few parts as I am writing this off the cuff...

4PlayONEShot - the next little evolutionary step

First fruits of a very long labour - Scenarios for the War in Ireland 1688-1691
I started collecting the material for these scenarios over eight years ago and the more I dug, the more I found. I could never decide on the final public sharing of the content in terms of format. I had thought about a book but needed some other supportive content which has ended up in other projects. The success of the 4Play format finally helped me make up my mind and so I am delighted to...

Back from the Wars.. Promenades Travel Tour of Irish Battlefields 1690-1691
Field guns at Oldbridge |
We packed a helluva lot into four and a half days visiting Oldbridge, Donore, Duleek, Athlone, Aughrim, Portumna, Nena and Limerick. We spent long enjoyable days walking the fields, forts, castles and sites of the campaigns of 1690 and 1691 in Leinster, Connaught and Munster.

Das Heer des Blauen Königs - The Bavarian Army
Clarence has produced a fantastic set of Bavarian infantry flags for the period 1680-1714. These were drawn partly from the portfolio of Das Heer des Blauen Königs Die Soldaten des Kurfürsten Max II. Emanuel von Bayern, 1682-1726 by Anton Hoffman.
He has also created a set of generic standards for cuirassier regiments. A fine addition to our range and now available in both the online stores of...
The Bloody Hollow - full game walkthrough video
I just uploaded the full Bloody Hollow scenario on video here
Hopefully it will hit the spot
Bloody Aughrim pdfs - Released
These turned into rather epic pieces and are the longest and most detailed scenario guides I have yet produced in the 4Play range.
There was so much to cover that it took two full 36 page pdfs for the main action and I am working on the third dealing with some minor elements of the battle now.
There is a lot of detail in these and I have included battlefield pictues detailing the terrain upon which...
Red Bog - 12th July 1691
I've been threatening to do an Aughrim video for the YouTube Channel for a while and finally got round to completing it. The Red Bog scenario is a regimental sized BLB game with 1:10 model to man ratio and is played in the 4PlayX format - 4 x 4 table, 8 turns .
It turned out rather well and got me fired up to continue with the Irish output for BLB, 4Play and background reading and reference...
