Quindia flags for the British infantry at Blenheim

Can you believe it? We are releasing flags for Marlborough's British infantry at the Battle of Blenheim. Of the fourteen battalions present, the flags for only a few have been definitely identified over the years. In our conjecture we have followed certain conventions which are reasonably safe and have existing precedent.

Where we have differed from existing conjectural flags which have been...

Late and Early... An in between Anniversary Post

A well received version of Neerwinden at Partizan about 15 years ago. Terrain by Ade Howe.

Thanks once again to Peter the Court Remembrancer! He reminded me of both the anniversary of Landen (just passed) and the imminent anniversary of Steinkirke are upon us.

Another shot of the Partizan game

I have covered both battles in detail in various scenarios over the years and have visited the field at...

Anniversary Post: Bloody Aughrim - Remembered as a wargame

Jacobite cavarly attack!

The Battle of Aughrim holds a strangely Cinderella like quality when compared with the Battle of the Boyne but in everyway it is more interesting. It was more evenly matched. more brutal and more decisive.
A game I organized at Derby a few years back (terrain by Adrian Howe)

It occurred almost a year later and by that time, despite their myriad tribulations, the Irish army...

Warfare Miniatures - figure availability update

I thought it would be useful to update on the stock situation at Warfare Miniatures. Firstly, we are all healthy here (thank goodness and touch wood). The company is also healthy so we are not in any trouble, packing up, going bust, dying off, fleeing the country (some chance).

Covid has however, interupted what is commonly known as 'the supply chain'. Our main contract casters have not been...

The Battle of the Boyne 1st/12th July 1690. Remembered as a wargame

Williamite infantry crossing the river

A welcome email from my friend Peter A, reminded me of the significance of the date (days and dates now seem to meld in this Covid world, I got up early this morning thinking it was a work day!). How could I have overloooked this anniversary, particularly as I live in the West of Scotland?

Whether the Old Style or New...

Great choice for a wargaming force - The Enniskilleners

Enniskillen companies forward!

It is an ongoing personal mission to make available as much information as possible about the fighting men participating on both sides during the war in Ireland 1688-1691.

Enniskillen infantry in action against Jacobite chevaliers!

Over many years of digging, I have read, compared, sifted, interpreted, dismissed and compiled little bits and pieces of information in an...

New PDF release: Protestant forces in Western Ireland 1689-1690

This PDF will I hope, provide much sought after information on the Protestant volunteer units which kept King William's cause alive in Ireland during the uncertain first years of his reign.

I have drawn on multiple sources to put together the information contained here and Clarence has delivered his usual excellent standard of illustrations.

Of course, we had to use some conjecture for flags in...

Warfare Miniatures product availability update

Just a quick note to let everyone know that Warfare Miniatures is still very much open for business. We do have some depleting/out of stock situations but those products have now been removed (temporarily) from the online store. Everything visible in the store is available right now.

The situation is directly related to the lock-down. Whilst we are all bunkered-down, gamers and collectors are still...

MIA? Ma - ma!

I may have appeared missing in action over the last few days... not so. I have been using every spare hour to set up, play and photograph small games for a series of pdfs I hope to release within the next 3-4 weeks. This has already involved nine x 90 minute games since Sunday last, with each of them having to be written up as a scenario, photographed and AAR completed. All are based on research I...

Marlborough's amphibious campaign 1690 - pdf release

It is with delight and some pride that we release our latest pdf detailing the campaigns in Ireland between 1688 and 1691.

Charles Fort, Kinsale - scene of a bloody siege, sallies and assaults

This one deals with the ambitious and extremely successful amphibious campaign undertaken by the Earl of Marlborough against Cork and Kinsale in the autumn of 1690. Involving thousands of troops fresh from...

Guest post: Gareth Lane's Scots-Dutch Brigade

George Ramsay's Regiment

The Scots-Dutch Brigade had a long and active service but is probably best remembered for its great defeat at the hands of Viscount Dundee's Highland army at Killiecrankie in 1689.

Hugh Mackay of Scourie's Regiment

That it was composed of and largely officered by experienced Scots officers is something occasionally yet deliberately overlooked by those intent on some Scots v...

Williamite Army, 1690

Clarence Harrison - Just eye candy... not sure I've posted these as a set before... I still want to add more units (two Huguenot battalions and three squadrons of Eppinger's Dragoons), but I am well pleased with the collection.

Somehow, I've never managed a series of photos for my assembled Jacobite army so I'll have to add to my 'to do' list!
