The League of Augsburg

Action Replay - the MIGHTY Fighting White

Set up on a 6 x 4 table

Where to begin? The last battle was a decisive victory for the English fleet. This encounter sees de Ruyter’s large 1stsquadron of the Dutch fleet, badly battered after a day of engaging the Duke of Albemarle off the Suffolk coast. Having broken off in the late afternoon, the Dutch are heading southeast to regroup, repair and replenish when to windward, they spot twenty-one...

Fighting White!

The action begins with John Harman's lead ships engaging van Nes's vanguard

Whilst I am still smarting from the total drubbing I received at the hands of Admiral Colin, I thought it might be useful to get down on e-paper what actually happened.

The setting was 1666 - a big year for fires. We are in North Sea, off the Suffolk coast and Prince Rupert with a clutch of admirals meets Michiel de Ruyter...

Von Tripdenfel Musketeer Regiment

Clarence Harrison - The Gran Duchy of Sazir is a mysterious land of dark forests. The majority of the population are serfs, little more than slaves of the lords who rule from brooding castles. Duke Mortis (His High and Terrible Grace, Herzog of Sazir, etc.) demands universal service in the armies of the state and supplements his ranks with foreign mercenaries.

That's it. While I could certainly...

The Realm of Quindia: 1768

Clarence Harrison - Barry and I were chatting on the phone yesterday and I mentioned a project I was working on, purely to fulfill an ambition of my own. It falls a little outside of the League of Augsburg period, but Barry said I should post about it anyway as it may be of interest to the people who follow our work.

I've decided that 2022 will be the year to finally launch a project that's been...

Too much? Aughrim all in one place

I make no apologies for the time, effort and focus I have directed on the Battle of Aughrim, July 12th 1691. Wargaming resources about the battle have increased steadily over the years as I have worked my way through.

There are eight uniform and regimental history pdfs for the entire Williamite Army available. These give detailed information of the complete order of battle for Ginckel's troops.

Kill Herbert! A Donnybrook 1691 production

I had fun making this. It is a Donnybrook scenario built around the mysterious death of Colonel Charles Herbert at the Battle of Aughrim on July 12th 1691.  You can see the video here:

Herbert might be described in modern parlance as 'dangerous to know'. His death may have been at the hands of his own side. A chaotic rout provided the perfect cover for Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap.

This game called K...

The Bloody Hollow - full game walkthrough video

I just uploaded the full  Bloody Hollow scenario on video here

Hopefully it will hit the spot

Bloody Aughrim pdfs - Released

These turned into rather epic pieces and are the longest and most detailed scenario guides I have yet produced in the 4Play range.

There was so much to cover that it took two full 36 page pdfs for the main action and I am working on the third dealing with some minor elements of the battle now.

There is a lot of detail in these and I have included battlefield pictues detailing the terrain upon which...

Cossack Flags!

Clarence Harrison - On the heels of the Austrian foot, we have flags for your cossacks!

There are four sheets of five flags that may be used for both infantry and cavalry. If you need a custom size, get in touch! We can print them for any scale.

As always, they are available in the US from Warfare Miniatures USA and the rest of the world from the League of Augsburg shop!

Release of WSS 4Play 040 Heat of the day!

Release of first Mad for War - War of Spanish Succession 4Play pack - 040 Heat of the day!

This deals with three actions in the Tropics which are all historical battles - Benbow's battle against du Casse off Colombia in 1702, Leake's action at Gibraltar against de Pointis in 1705 and Wager's attack on the Spanish Treasure fleet off Cartagena in 1708.

Mad for War!

Clarence Harrison - While I will probably be messing with this right up until we send it to the printer, I thought I’d share the cover painting…

Mad for War, by Clarence Harrison

Happy New Year Freebie

I worked on a lot of scenario stuff during the holiday break being confined to bed with the lurgy. One such was the latest free 4Play scenario set focused on Mad for War.

It is imaginatively titled - Mad for Wargaming! It features three unusual scenarios

The first has a lone VOC ship facing a flotilla of Chinese pirate junks and fireships of various sizes in the spice islands of Indonesia. If you...
